Ocean Opportunities with P&O Cruises
Cruise Ship Job News: 16th May 2006

P&O Cruises, a major UK cruise line, runs a website called Ocean Opportunities dedicated to various careers with the company, especially in its Deck & Engine departments.
"The site's packed full of facts, hints, stories, advice and personal accounts. Learn how you can travel the world, develop new skills, get professional qualifications and make good money while you're doing it, whether you're still at school, thinking about university or currently studying for a degree."
P&O Cruises jobs seem tempting:
"When you're living and working on one of our ships, you'll get to travel all over the world, from Australia to Alaska and from Copenhagen to the Caribbean. Along the way, you'll get the chance to see lots of new places, get a feel for different cultures and sample all kinds of exotic food. Just think. One day you could be on safari in Kenya. The next, you'll be scaling Table Mountain for a magical view of Cape Town."
But working on a cruise ship isn't just travel and fun – it involves hard work as well, lots of it.
"It certainly isn't an endless round of social events and visits to exotic foreign ports. Yes, you will get a chance to see the world and to have great fun while you're doing it. But at the same time, whichever path you choose will require a high level of commitment, resourcefulness and initiative, both during your training and throughout your career."
P&O Cruises offers two main career routes:
"As a Deck Cadet, you will be learning how to navigate the ship and ensure its safe, efficient operation. As an Engineering Cadet, you will be developing the range of expertise you need to ensure the technical well-being of a modern, high-tech cruise ship."
