Celebrity Cruises was founded in 1989 by the Chandris Group. In 1997 it joined forces with the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line to form Royal Caribbean International.Trading as part of Royal Caribbean International makes it the second largest cruise operator in the world. It is also headquartered in Miami, Florida along with its parent company.
The company has a distinguishing company brand, with its logo signature "X” displayed prominently on the funnel of its fleet of ships. The “X” stands for the Greek letter "Chandris" and is also named after its founder John D. Chandris.
With its fleet of 10 premium cruise ships, Celebrity Cruises travels to exciting destinations including Alaska, Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada/England, Caribbean, Europe, Galapagos, Hawaii, Pacific Coastal, Panama Canal, and South America.
It continues to make technological advancements in its fleet and in 2000 launched the Celebrity Millennium, the first ship of its kind to use more environmentally friendly gas turbine technology. Other sister ships that have followed in the footsteps of the Millenium include the Celebrity Infinity, Celebrity Summit and Celebrity Constellation.
The company has also received top honors from travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler. The Celebrity Solstice was voted by readers as the world's best mega size cruise ship in 2010.
